Meet Matt, our new Project Fellow!
Within the first five minutes of his interview, Matt was showing us solutions he had already come up with to problems we didn't know we had using tools we didn't know existed. We tried to play it cool, but, no we didn't--we hired him on the spot. We are so excited to have Matt working with us on our Drive Together MPLS project. Matt brings an entirely new and critically needed knowledge and skill set to the team, including the ability to curate, make sense of, and create visual communication tools for complex data sets.
You can find Matt's bio here. We also asked him a few questions so you can get to know him better.
What is your favorite mode of transportation?
I have always loved trains, so getting to ride the Green Line into school every morning is a childhood dream come true.
You're new to the Twin Cities. What have been your favorite and least favorite things about Minneapolis so far?
In the few months I've lived here I would say my favorite thing about the city is the amount of food that revolves around cheese. From the Ju[i]cy Lucy to fried cheese curds, Minneapolis knows how to win over my lactose-loving heart. My least favorite thing here is House Centipedes. Having never seen this cross between a daddy long legs and lint before, I thought a new species of insect had evolved (and later became extinct) in my closet.
Besides driving you around, if you could have a robot do something for you every day, what would it be?
I’m still waiting for someone to invent a Laundry Bot. Pick it up, wash it, dry it, carry it up the stairs, fold it then put it away. I can assure any would-be inventors out there that the market is full of people like me (and their significant others) who are desperate for this.
What are you most excited to work on for the Drive Together MPLS project?
I’m most excited to work alongside governments, communities, and service providers to create the transportation networks of the future. Through Drive Together MPLS, I believe we can harness technological innovation to meaningfully advance opportunities available to every resident. It’s a mission I’m delighted to work with Leili and Laura on and believe what we are doing here in Minneapolis can set the stage for how cities across the world understand and plan for the impacts of emerging technologies.
Welcome to the team, Matt!
